Monthly Post Archive - June 2025

Right, I know it's only like six hours into July, but that feels later than I should be releasing this. When the clock ticked over in my timezone from June 30th to July 1st, I felt like I'd forgotten something: this. It took me until half-past four to realize it however.

I will say, too, that I did actually post stuff this month. Not as crazy as it was when I was on Twitter in 2020-2021, but better than May was, so that's helpful here.

For the sake of archival, I need people in the future to understand: June 4th, 2025, the release date of Deltarune Chapters 3 & 4, was a huge day online*. It was big news. The long-running meme of "Deltarune Tomorrow" was over. It was "Deltarune today" that day.

And I was excited. And I couldn't sleep. So, what do you do, as a person who's up a few hours before one of the biggest indie game moments of 2025 who is also sitting, yourself, on an update to your own indie game? You make an awful marketing decision and release that update hours before Deltarune Chapters 3 & 4 — a game that you're aware everyone who might have cared about the update to your game will be way more excited about — because that's fucking hilarious.

* It was less so one for people who didn't give a fuck about Deltarune, but even if you were in that camp, it was like an eclipse. You'd find at least one online post about it.

‪‪I'm LIVE Playing Sonic Adventure for the First Time! Check it out! chillincreative.cc/live

Thus begins the Sonic Adventure blind playthrough. If you're a Sonic Adventure fan, check it out! Please don't be mad at me for getting lost in Station Square.

(Here's the link: "Playing Sonic Adventure for the First Time Ever" on YouTube)

Fun Fact: The stream title, "Playing Sonic Adventure for the First Time Ever", was originally "Playing Sonic Adventure for the First Time", but I retroactively changed it to suit with the Sonic 3D Blast naming convention when I set up the followup stream to this one.

Everything I've seen of Mario Kart World so far is giving me flashbacks to when I used to play SKENGINES RACING on Roblox ad nauseam. By that, I mean unless you're in first, it's just fucking item insanity; you get owned every three seconds by all the other people who also aren't in first.

Speaking of game releases in June 2025, Mario Kart World was a big one. I watched a number of YouTubers play it and, as the post explains, I just kept thinking about my time playing SKENGINES RACING on Roblox. I played it a lot when it was active. Currently, as of writing this, there is not a single server with a person in (which has generally been the norm for a while now).

I will note one issue I have with this post in retrospect: it's inaccurate to one very strong degree. In Mario Kart World, getting 1st is a death sentence. Chances are, if you're in first, there is a good chance you will get hit with three items and be catapulted to last place. In SKENGINES RACING, those with win counts in the hundreds-to-thousands — I'm in this category — will, once in first, race ahead of everyone else, and even if you're in 2nd, if you're closer to the skill level of the rest of the server than the skill level of the likes of zizzlef (with 6214 wins) or DaMegaBeast2008 (with 7144 wins), you don't have a chance of passing the person in first.

Also, for anyone wanting to see a quick glance into SKENGINES gameplay, here's a Twitch clip of me neck-and-neck with SpookSterTTV.

I gained a new philosophy regarding spoilers thanks to my friend Michelle. We watched Spider-Man: No Way Home together and she was shocked to see characters that were in the trailers. She went into the movie having seen none of the promotional material. Since then, I've tried to do the same thing. Any time there's an announcement regarding something I plan to see, read, play, or whatever, I avoid as much as I can. For instance, I would avoid YouTube to avoid Doctor Who spoilers, and when watching Doctor Who, I always paused before the "Next Time" previews.

When Deltarune Chapter 3 & 4 footage was shown off in the Nintendo Direct for the Switch 2, I did not like seeing the snippets of the aforementioned chapters shown in the trailer. I spoke to Mollystars about how, after that trailer, I didn't check the Newsletter or anything Toby Fox or the Deltarune team had been posting on social media and she basically told me "okay, so you're probably not gonna wanna watch the video I just made talking about a bunch of Chapter 3 & 4 promotional shit." (paraphrased heavily)

And so, knowing that a lot of people I follow or am subscribed to would be putting Deltarune somewhere on my social media feeds — like I said: this was a big day — I coded a quick thing in Notepad++, grabbed a sound effect from Chapter 1 from The Sounds Resource, and subbed out my browser bookmarks for YouTube, Tumblr, and Bluesky for that HTML file. Instinctively clicking them lead to a reminder that Deltarune Chapters 3 & 4 were waiting, with the text being based on the text in the part of the Switch 2 trailer I said I didn't like seeing.

I don't have as long of a spiel for this one: I'm a slow reader for two reasons. I'm, well, a slow reader and I get distracted easily, my mind will be wandering while my eyes still scan down the page, and then, when I return to the reality of "I'm reading a book", I'll need to move my eyes back to wherever I lost focus to re-read that section. Moreover, I'm also very dumb. Any time scholars bring up and cite any philosophers, I get very, very lost and immediately lose all ability to comprehend the point being made.

Sincerely,
the girl who did a presentation on Jean-Paul Sartre and Existentialism,
retained none of it,
made the presentation focused on style rather than research,
and ended the class with a 70% (which, admittedly, is a B in Ontario)

I get so worried about making sure the promotional images and screenshots for my indie game Traversal match up with what the game looks like meanwhile #1 best-selling game Minecraft is using images like this as promotional material.

Just so we're clear, I changed one texture in Traversal Demo 0.3.1, and updated the promotional screenshots on Steam, Itch, GameJolt, and IGDB to reflect this.

Another "just so we're clear", I had to Frankenstein two images together for this. It's, as far as I know, identical to the image I found in the launcher that inspired this post (but that I didn't think to just get from the launcher itself), but when I tried to find it online, I found versions with text overtop the image. So, I found one with text at the top and one with text at the bottom, and combined them to create an image with no text.

This is a Tumblr exclusive! Stick around; there's one other one!

https://www.tumblr.com/camillechillin/786475291439677440

Phie, who sent me this ask, reblogged this 20 times. Michelle and Roni, who also received identical asks, did not get their shit mass-reblogged and, in fact, got more sprites sent their way. This was the beginning and the end of it for me though. All of that would prove to be evidence towards the notion that my response was the best response.

Either that, or I got round-one eliminated.

Watching all of those "YouTubers React to [Insert Deltarune Chapter 3 & 4 Moment Here]" videos, I've come to conclusion that, out of everyone who's streamed Deltarune, MysticSlime's setup beats them all only because it looks like it was last updated in 2012.

— Chillin (@camillechillin.bsky.social) June 17, 2025 at 9:37 PM

It doesn't show here (because I wanted to pick the most no-spoilers screengrab as possible from a MysticSlime Deltarune video), but the Deltarune window, being centred, is just barely covered by the webcam. This is a problem that could easily be solved by just... moving the Deltarune window to frame-left. These easily-fixable problems combined with how unprofessional the entire setup is awarded it the praise (and partial insult said lovingly) in the original post text.

I'm LIVE Finishing Sonic's Story in Sonic Adventure for the First Time Ever! Check it out! chillincreative.cc/live

— Chillin (@camillechillin.bsky.social) June 22, 2025 at 3:00 PM

So, after beating Sonic's story (and spending almost an hour on that final boss for no other reason than a major skill issue), I do still have to play through Tails' story, Knuckles' story, etc. before I can really have a solid opinion on the game. Controls-wise, it just feels like the Adventure-inspired physics demos I've played on ROBLOX. I do like the limited moveset. I don't personally like the idea of the bounce or the stomp (having played Frontiers). The bounce, which I'm going to compare to the Bubble Shield as it appears in Sonic Mania, is a weird thing to have as a part of Sonic's arsenal, like the Electric Shield to the Double Jump or (and this one I'm less confident in criticizing) the Flame Shield to the Air Dash. I like these as moves you can use under specific circumstances to see level elements you normally wouldn't see with your base moveset. The bounce, the double jump, and the air-dash as things Sonic can just do to access weirdly designed level segments is something I can't really understand. The stomp makes sense practically, but, coming from Classic Sonic, I jump with the idea that where I land is just where the arc of my jump takes me.

It should be noted, to Sonic fans, Sonic centrists and Sonic haters (i.e Shadow fans, Eggman fans), take literally everything I just said with an insane grain of salt. The list of 3D Sonic games I've played are Sonic Frontiers, Sonic 3D Blast, and Sonic Adventure (in that order).

Looking at my notes, I referred to a group of three people I know as "the three amigos" which isn't that absurd until you realize I wrote "the three amongus" instead.

— Chillin (@camillechillin.bsky.social) June 29, 2025 at 4:41 AM

GalaxyIsAway, who was the first (and as of now, only) person to like this post on Bluesky, was one of the three "amongus" mentioned. That's the end of this annotation.

Another Tumblr exclusive: My friend Melody, whose recently released Minecraft/Sonic video you should watch, nabbed by June profile picture and made a bunch of fake posts as me on Tumblr to Inspect Element and share. All of that to say, no, within the same month that I released an update, Traversal did not get cancelled.

And that was June! That was Pride Month! Now it's... oh, it's Canada Day here. That's... not as interesting to be entirely honest. Fuckin' fireworks. See you next month!
